Mayank A. Nanavaty a cataract, cornea and refractive surgery Consultant at the Sussex Eye Hospital, University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, Brighton and honorary senior clinical lecturer at the Brighton & Sussex Medical School. His areas of clinical interests are medical and surgical cornea, external eye disease, cataract, and refractive surgery.

He is the lead for cataract, corneal crosslinking, contact lens & research departments at the Sussex Eye Hospital. He has received several research grants from the prestigious institutions (such as ESCRS, NIHR, etc.) and industry to conduct clinical studies in the National Health Services (NHS). His areas of research interest include, astigmatism, wavefront aberrations, ectatic corneal disorders, endothelial disease, lamellar corneal transplant surgeries, quality of vision in pseudophakia, cataract surgical techniques, intraocular lenses and posterior capsule opacification.

Publications & Memberships

He consistently contributes to academia with his publications and has several publications including prospective randomised controlled trials, Cochrane review, case–control studies, cohort studies and retrospective studies in high-impact peer-reviewed literature (see list on PubMed) and over 300 national and international presentations. He is a Section Editor of Eye and a member of the editorial board of Current Eye Research and the International Journal of Keratoconus and Ectatic Corneal Disease (IJKECD).

He is very active as a contributor, organiser, committee member, panellist or faculty at several national and international ophthalmology meetings and organisations including the ESCRS, ASCRS, RCOphth, BSRS and UKISCRS. He has served as a member of the Scientific Committee and is the Senior Examiner for the Certificate of Laser Refractive Surgery Examination Committee at RCOphth. He is a Programme Committee member, Chair of the Cataract Workforce Group, and serves on the Cataract Guidelines Committee at the ESCRS. He was on the UKISCRS council as Programme Lead and Hon. Secretary. He also serves as a Council Member and President Elect at BSRS.
