Dr Clare O`Donnell

Dr Clare O’Donnell is a research optometrist with experience gained in the clinical and academic
sectors. She is currently Head of Eye Sciences & Optometry at Optegra Eye Health Care and a
Reader at Aston University.
She completed a PhD and an MBA, and previously held various academic and management roles at
The University of Manchester, where. Her research interests include the anterior ocular effects of
systemic disease, dry eye, intraocular lens and corneal laser vision correction surgery. She has been
Principal Investigator on various research projects funded by the European Union, the NHS, the
Technology Strategy Board, College of Optometrists, British Contact Lens Association and industry.
She has supervised around 30 research students including 9 PhD students. She is a Fellow of the
American Academy of Optometry, the British Contact Lens Association, and a member of the College
of Optometrists.  She has given invited lectures and seminars throughout Europe and North America
and she has published around 80 scientific papers and educational articles and six book chapters.
